The global burden of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, especially in developing countries already struggling with the devastation of poverty, HIV, and shortage of healthcare workers, is large and escalating. We, as academic orthopedic surgeons, have a moral duty to partner with our fellow surgeons around the world, in hopes of lessening this tragic trend.
